In 1972, weren't no Beatles, weren't hardly a Badfinger around, and the Top 40 needed perfect pop that brought bunches of kids swooning to melodies and dancing to daring lyrics while being chased and chaste.

Raspberries fit that mold. "Go All the Way" was teenage naughty but not nasty, "I Wanna Be w/You" was aching and forecasting latter day bands like Cheap Trick Rubinoos and dare we suggest it paved the way for huge success for Lyndsey Buckingham led Fleetwood Mac a few years later...

This is a fine CD of Raspberries hits and misses, LP favorites and it sounds like the echo of corderoy bell bottoms against a denim blouse.

Man, no one makes music like this anymore; and the Raspberries did it the best. 70s power pop at its peak, this band did it all, did it right, and they quit when they knew it was over.

I swear this band is the missing link between the Who (early good Who, anyway) and Cheap Trick. From the Who they had to have learned writing catchy songs with big crunchy riffs, and had to have passed this on to C.T. (I mean they're both from Cleveland...!).

And what great riffs they are; check out "Go All the Way", "Party's Over", "I'm A Rocker", "Hard to get over a Heartbreak"; songs that stay in your brain for a long time.

Yes, there's a huge Beatles influence, what with the harmonies and Eric Carmen's uncanny vocal resemblance to McCartney. And possibly the Beach Boys, too: check out "Drivin' Around".

Cannot recommend this enough! Hard to believe the man who sang "I'm a Rocker", and meant it, went on to sing "All By Myself" ("I wrote this song all by myself...").

Let's face it, there's not a clinker on here. There may be a questionable inclusion or two, but for the most part this cd wildly succeeds in presenting an overview of an incredibly talented band that left us all too soon. It's all here (with the possible exception of their incredible Who homage "I Don't Know What I Want",) and some bonus stuff also. (You'll notice that the counter on your cd player shows 22 songs instead of the listed 20. Very cool. I wish this happened more often, and the bonus cuts are pretty neat.) This is a can't miss collection and if you even have a passing interest in this band it will be a part of your travel collection from now on.

THIS CD GOES BACK TO THE EARLY 70'S WHEN MUSIC WAS MUSIC AND ROCK WAS ROCK. SURE THESE GUYS HAD A FEW SLOW SONGS THAT SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE BUT THE ROCKERS ON THIS DISC MAKE UP FOR THAT. ERIC CARMEN WAS AND STILL IS A GREAT MUSICIAN BUT HE WAS ONLY A FOURTH OF THIS GROUP. ALL THE GUYS WERE TALENTED. WALLY BRYSON WENT ON TO BE WITH FOTOMAKER ( A NEW YORK BAND THAT WAS VERY UNDERRATED). jUST LISTEN TO SOME OF THE SONGS ON THE DISC BEFORE YOU BUY IT. THIS IS A GREAT CD IF YOUR APPROCHING FIFTY AS I AM. MAYBE THEY WILL GET BACK TOGETHER SOMEDAY FOR A REUNION TOUR. THAT WILL PROBABLY NEVER HAPPEN BUT WE CAN DREAM CAN'T WE!
