Review: Blurry And Disappointed - Has Canon Lost Its Touch?

At this point, I am quite disappointed with Canon CanoScan film scanners.

First, I was sent a replacement 8800F scanner for my malfunctioning one by Canon. The replacement arrived unfit for use, with the scanner mechanism unlocked.

Then a second replacement was sent. I just completed running some test scans. Comparing the scan quality of the 8800F recently received with scans of the same colour positive films made only days before on my CanoScan 8400F before it malfunctioned, it is plainly evident that the CanoScan 8800F scans are inferior, especially in resolution. Blurry results were produced on the CanoScan 8800F even with the unsharp mask correction turned on. This is contrary to what one might expect from a product update.

Please see the slide discussion for sample scans.

The one star was for the speed of the scanner - it is fast. But at the end of the day, isn't quality what we really want?

I will be happy to go with another manufacturer.  [↑]

Review: Only Scanner You Or I Will Ever Need!

Buy it...... Buy it NOW!
Whatever negative reviews you read about this scanner are false! If you want the sharpest clearest scans you have ever got...., BUY this scanner!
Fast doesn't say it well enough. Detail in the scans are incredible and by this I mean, if you have a dirty neg, pos, or photo.. it WILL show up BIG time in the final scan. Some call it noise, but if it is on the negative or photo that you scan it will be three times as bad after you scan. The results are awesome and the program that comes with this scanner is GREAT! After doing a search I found that the software alone will cost $50.00. So this is a great deal and a great scanner. Trust Canon and you won't be disappointed! [↑]

Review: Scanning Wonder

Canon CanoScan 8800F Color Film/Negative/Photo Scanner (2168B002)

Just what I needed to continue enlarging old family photos and tin types and negatives we have found. Brings out the faded pictures and enlarges them perfectly. Much more fun than my last scanner. [↑]
